The Know-How Around Remote Therapeutic Monitoring

The Know-How Around Remote Therapeutic Monitoring

Why?

If you have read Simon Senek’s book, Start With Why, you’ll know that it is best to find the reason and purpose before putting forth any effort. When it comes to Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM), the same rules apply. What if you could generate a brand new revenue stream while simultaneously providing a differentiated patient experience and improving outcomes?

With RTM, physicians and practitioners can generate monthly reimbursements of up to $150 per patient or more. It’s estimated your practice could see an additional $20,000 per provider for the year! Furthermore, RTM enables providers and the care team access to their patients on a more regular basis, but without the hassle of having to call, schedule, and see the patients in the office or clinic. Therapy and medication adherence can be more closely monitoring, ultimately helping your patients succeed in getting back to health.

How?

RTM allows for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) to be the key to your success.

What is a SaMD? Defined as software intended to be used for one or more medical purposes that perform these purposes without being part of a hardware medical device.

Make sure that whichever vendor you decide to choose that they meet this definition. It is not complicated, but definitely ask the question.

What?

The new RTM codes enable the ability for remote management and collection of NON-PHYSIOLOGICAL data about the patient. This is not to be confused with remote PATIENT monitoring (RPM), which is used to collect data and reimburse for physiological data.

Additionally, RTM codes require a “direct supervision” by the provider and/or the care team. Make sure the platform used allows for this type of supervision and data capture. When the billing codes are sent to the billing team the “direct supervision” should be accounted for.

The benefit can be huge for the patient and provider relationship and adherence to the care plan.

Who?

Physicians, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and possibly others on the care team are able to utilize RTM.
